Objectives

Pharmacognosy deals with the knowledge and application of biological medicinal substances from plants, microorganisms and animal products for human and veterinary use.

• Teach identification, authentication, extraction and isolation of active ingredients.
• Train students in chromatography, purification, herbal formulation development and testing procedures.
• Develop knowledge in morphology, histology and powdered drug identification.
• Strengthen understanding of isolation, qualitative and quantitative evaluation, medicinal use and scale-up processes.

An Insight into Activities

Students and faculty conduct organized research to isolate and estimate active components from herbal medicines. UG students receive practical training in morphological and microscopic identification of crude drugs.
